If your husband is at all like mine, pizza is a must when football is on. Normally we just get the frozen Digiorno out of the freezer and stick it in the oven. Well, tonight I thought I would switch it up a bit! Here is one of the best homemade pizza crust recipes ever. Give it a try, tell me what you think!
Happy Kneading!
Backcountry Pizza Crust
(makes 2 12inch crusts)
1 1/4 oz package dry yeast
1/4 c warm water
3 c flour
1 tsp salt
2 tbl olive oil
1 tbl honey
3/4 c cold water
In a small glass bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water and let stand 10 minutes, until slightly bubbly. In large bowl, combine flour and salt, set aside. After yeast has sat for 10 minutes add oil and honey to yeast/water mix. Combine this yeast mixture with flour mixture and cold water. Stir to blend. Knead by hand until smooth and glossy, about 10 minutes. Form into a ball and place dough in oiled bowl, turning to coast entire surface. Cover with plastic wrap and warm towel and let rise until doubled in bulk, about 1 hour.
Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Divide in half and shape each piece into a 12 inch round crust*. Prebake crust if desired for 10 minutes prior to topping with pasta sauce and other desired toppings. Or you can top uncooked crust with desired toppings and bake 10-15 minutes (or until crust in golden brown).
* If you don't want to make both 12 inch crusts you can freeze one of them for up to two months. Place dough in a freezer-safe plastic bag and freeze. Thaw at room temperature, 30 minutes before proceeding.
Enjoy!
