4th of July!
Finally we got to spend the 4th of July as a married couple. We had quite an eventful day. As both families traditions we always float the Platte River beginning at C-470 and floating to Bowles. We usually use big tire tubes (the kind that are really thick rubber so they won't pop. After blowing them up on the 3rd we found that we were two short of the amount we needed. So, frantically we tried to find tubes. On the way to the Platte, on of my parents tubes blew up and tore right across the seam, so even if we wanted to there was no way it could have been patched. After finding some other tubes at Walmart, everyone was good to go! The water was moving a lot faster than normal so the usual 3 1/2 hour float was accomplished in 2! After the eventful yet amazing floating experience we headed back home, got cleaned up from the river water smell, and headed to Sedalia for the fireworks show, another family tradition. Usually we set up our chairs in the post office parking lot and lay in the back of our trucks to watch the fireworks. You are so close that you almost get scared that they are going to fall on you. It was amazing though. I don't think 45 minutes of fireworks can be beat! 4th of July is a great reminder of how lucky we are to live in such a great country!
